Marion Regional Farmers Market Season Kicks Off THIS Saturday, May 2nd
The Marion Regional Farmers Market opens this Saturday, May 2nd, and will be open every Saturday morning from 8am until noon through October. “Farmers, crafters, bakers, artists, church groups, local non-profits, and backyard growers are all welcome,” said Olivia McDonald, Executive Director of Marion Downtown. “Ours is a little different than some, because, while we emphasize locally grown products, we also allow regional vegetables and produce as long as it’s labeled accordingly. That provides us with much more variety for a longer season, and keeps things changing all the time at the market for our customers.”
"Last year was a great season for local vendors, and we hope to have an even better season this year," said McDonald. Local vendors are gearing up for the season and Marion's Farmers Market is expecting to have a pavilion full a variety of different vendors. There's still space for anyone interested in setting up, too. "There is still plenty of space for anyone who wants to participate, and everyone is welcome!"
On a typical Saturday, customers can purchase fresh-baked bread, baked goodies, canned jams and jellies, farm-fresh meats, eggs, organic herbs, veggies, and cheeses, seasonal fruits, handmade crafts, even seedlings and hanging baskets. Downtown businesses are encouraged to set up at the market, and fresh coffee, breakfast and goodies will be for sale during market hours weekly.
"This year, we're hoping to expand and host live music, workshops and presentations during market hours as well," said McDonald.
Participants – vendors, backyard growers, bakers, crafters, etc. – are always welcome. Cost is $5 a week for a table space, or $10 for a vehicle space. You may pay the market attendant on market day, or you may pay in advance for the season for a discount. If you are interested in setting up as a vendor for the market, contact Olivia McDonald at (276)783-4190 or email email@example.com.
